After a Week of Implementation of the Latest Travel Regulations, Passenger Traffic at AP I Airports Rises by 20 Percent

Jakarta, March 16, 2022 - Passenger traffic at 15 airports under the management of Angkasa Pura Airports showed an increasing trend following the issuance of the Transportation Ministerial Circular No. 21/2022 that took effect starting March 8, 2022.

On March 8-14, the Company served 761,234 passengers, which rose by 20 percent compared to that of March 1-7 with 631,271 passengers at 15 managed airports. The Company also logged 7,208 aircraft movements on March 8-14, an increase of 9 percent compared to March 1-7 with 6,610 aircraft movements.

“The increase in passenger traffic and domestic aircraft movements after the latest travel regulations is a positive signal that the aviation and tourism industry is slowly recovering. This is also an indication of the return of public confidence to travel by air transportation with easier and more comfortable travel requirements,” AP I President Director, Faik Fahmi said.

Yogyakarta Adisutjipto Airport reported the highest hike in passenger traffic following the implementation of new travel regulations by serving 2,197 passengers, an increase of 33 percent compared to the previous week which served 1,650 passengers. Meanwhile, El Tari Kupang Airport reported the second highest hike by serving 22,216 passengers, an increase of 29 percent compared to the previous week which served 17,181 passengers and I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali reported the third highest hike by serving 118,319 passengers, an increase of 28 percent compared to the previous week which served 91,789 passengers.

International Flights at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali

International flights at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport continued to show a positive trend. Since the international gates opened on February 3, the number of arriving and departing international passengers in the Airport has reached 8,770 passengers with aircraft traffic totaling 142 aircraft movements as of March 14, 2022. 

To date, seven airlines with international routes have operated at Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai by serving 5 flight routes. The seven airlines were Garuda Indonesia on Narita-Denpasar route and Sydney-Denpasar route, Singapore Airline on Singapore-Denpasar route, Scoot on Singapore-Denpasar route, Jetstar Asia on Singapore-Denpasar route, KLM Royal Dutch on Singapore-Denpasar route, Jetstar Airways on Melbourne-Denpasar route, and Malaysia Airlines on Kuala Lumpur-Denpasar route.

“With an increase in the number of airlines serving international flights at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali, it is expected to support efforts to restore the economy and tourism industry in Bali in a sustainable manner. We are also committed to continuing to ensure all international flight operational procedures run in accordance with applicable regulations and stringent health protocols implementation in order to realize safe, comfortable and healthy flights for all service users,” Faik Fahmi added.
