BANJARMASIN – Provincial Government of South Kalimantan plan to develop three airports to anticipate the growing need of air transportation. Those three airports are Syamsuddin Noor Airport in Banjarbaru, Gusti Syamsir Alam Airport in Kotabaru, and Warukin Airport in Tabalong.

Yesterday, South Kalimantan Deputy Governor Rudy Resnawan told the House Commission V that the economy of South Kalimantan keeps on growing and impact a high demand of air transportation. “Therefore, we will develop three airports.”

Syamsuddin Noor Airport, which is the biggest and main airport in South Kalimantan, will be developed to be an international airport. In the meantime, the two other airports are pioneer airports which hold strategic part in local economic growth. “Syamsuddin Noor Airport’s development is quite urgent considering its high air traffic. Presently, the number of passengers reaches 3.9 million people per year, while the airport’s capacity is only 1 million people,” added General Manager of Angkasa Pura Airports Syamsuddin Noor Airport Branch, Akhmad Munir.
