Syamsudin Noor Airport New Terminal Ready For Final Check

JAKARTA - The new terminal of Syamsudin Noor International Airport in Banjarmasin is ready for final check conducted by the Ministry of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia. The final check, which was carried out on November 5 to November 8, 2019, was done by the Ministry’s Directorate of Aviation Security. 

"This final check aims to ensure the terminal building, supporting buildings and facilities, as well as the equipment are safe, appropriate, and meet regulatory standards and are ready for operation," said Syamsudin Noor International Airport development project manager Dadang Dian Hendiana.

The result of the final check from the Ministry of Transportation will later provide records which need to be followed up and fulfilled by Angkasa Pura Airports as the airport operator.

The development project of Syamsudin Noor International Airport is one of the National Strategic Projects (PSN) mandated by the government to Angkasa Pura Airports to overcome the lack of capacity. The project consists of the construction of the land side, which includes the construction of a new terminal and cargo building, and the construction of the air side which includes the expansion of the apron.

The new terminal of Syamsudin Noor International Airport is of 77,569 square meters or eight times larger than the old terminal of only 9,043 square meters. The operation of the new terminal will increase the passenger capacity to seven million passengers per year or five times greater than the old terminal which can only accommodate 1.6 million passengers per year. It is also supported by 42 check-in counter units, three conveyor belts, and a waiting area of 5,185 square meters. There is also a parking area of 34,360 square meters for four-wheeled vehicles and 2,420 square meters for two-wheeled vehicles.

The new cargo terminal has a capacity of 44,000 tons per year from 22,297 tons per year. Meanwhile, the apron was extended to 129,812 square meters from 80,412 square meters. The new apron also able to accommodate 16 narrow-body aircraft from only eight narrow-body aircraft. 

"The presence of Syamsudin Noor International Airport's new terminal is part of Angkasa Pura Airports' commitment to continue improving airport services with international standard by prioritizing the principles of safety, security, services, and compliance. This new terminal is expected to become a new icon and pride of people of South Kalimantan,” said the Angkasa Pura Airports president director Faik Fahmi.
