Mount Merapi Erupted, Three Ap Airports Operates Normally

JAKARTA - Adisutjipto International Airport, Adi Soemarmo International Airport and Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) managed by Angkasa Pura Airports continue to operate normally after the eruption of Mount Merapi which occurred at around 10.47 local time.

The results of a paper test conducted on the air side area at 13.00-13.46 local time showed zero volcanic dust in the airspace of Adisutjipto International Airport in Yogyakarta as well as Adi Soemarmo International Airport in Solo and YIA in Kulon Progo.

"The operational activities of our three airports in Yogyakarta and Solo are running normally. Based on the results of a paper test, we found none or negative volcanic ash, in the airspace of Adisutjipto Airport, Adi Soemarmo Airport, and YIA so that it is certainly safe for flight operations," said Angkasa Pura Airports vice president corporate secretary  Handy Heryudhitiawan.

Based on an information from the Institute for Investigation and Development of Geological Disaster Technology (BPPTKG), the activity of Mount Merapi shows an amplitude of 75 mm with a smoke column reaching 5,000 meters with the direction of the wind leads to the southwest. Currently, Mount Merapi is at Level II or Alert.

"We will continue to coordinate with airport stakeholders and further monitor the impact of the volcanic ash movement of Mount Merapi on the operation of airports that we manage," Handy added.
