JAKARTA - Angkasa Pura Logistik, a subsidiary of Angkasa Pura Airports, has signed an aircraft lease agreement with Pelita Air Service to support increased connectivity and distribution of goods to various regions in Indonesia as well as the Angkasa Pura Logistik air freight business.

The signing was carried out by Angkasa Pura Logistik President Director Danny P. Thaharsyah and Pelita Air Service Acting President Director Muhammad Priadi, witnessed by Angkasa Pura Airports President Director Faik Fahmi at Angkasa Pura Airports Headquarters in Kemayoran on Tuesday (1/21).

“The development of the air cargo business is one of the strategic programs of Angkasa Pura Airports in 2020. One of them is through the cooperation of aircraft lease between Angkasa Pura Logistik, as a subsidiary, with Pelita Air Service in order to develop Angkasa Pura Logistik’s air freight business,” Faik said.

Meanwhile, Danny said, "To strengthen connectivity, boost economic growth in eastern Indonesia and increase the synergy between air logistics industry players, Angkasa Pura Logistik cooperates with Pelita Air Service through aircraft lease. As an airline that has been operating since the 1970s and has experience as an air operator certificate for Boeing and ATR, we believe Pelita Air Service can provide air transport services by airplane to transport Angkasa Pura Logistic cargo.”

In 2020, the development of adjacent business by subsidiary is one of Angkasa Pura Airports business strategies to increase revenue growth, especially non-aeronautical revenue, including the air cargo business through Angkasa Pura Logistik. The 2019 Mordor Intelligence Report revealed a projected increase in the air freight business in Indonesia of 110% in 2018-2024 with an estimated CAGR growth in 2019-2024 of 13.12 percent in which the air freight market volume in 2018 was USD9.2 billion and the market valuation is predicted to reach USD19.3 billion in 2024. The growth trend in the logistics sector is also projected by the Indonesian Logistics and Forwarders Association (ALFI). According to ALFI, the logistics sector growth in 2020 is ranging from 9 percent to 10.4 percent.

Based on the potential growth, Danny said, Angkasa Pura Logistik began developing the air freight business. The aircraft chartered by Angkasa Pura Logistik are two units of ATR 72-500F which will be used to transport cargo with round trip routes Jakarta-Balikpapan and Jakarta-Makassar this year. In the future, additional routes will be developed in line with the growth of the air freight business.
