MATARAM - Selaparang Airport in Mataram, Nusa Tenggara Barat that had been closed since October 1st, 2011 was officiallt opened by PT Angkasa Pura I (Persero) as the management of such airport stated from Monday April 7th, 2014. The opening of Selaparang Airport was done by Operation Director of Angkasa Pura I Yushan Sayuti and witnessed by the Mayor of Mataram H. Ahyat Abduh and General Manager of Lombok International Airport (BIL) Pudjono.

“This Selaparang Airport, at the beggining, will be used for flight school need. There are two flight school that will utilize this airport as the education location, such as Bali International Flight Academy (BIFA) and Lombok Institute Flight Technology (LIFT),” said Yushan Sayuti.

According to Yushan, the revival of this 68 hectares former airport was a form of responsibility Angkasa Pura I in managing asset possessed for the improvement of Mataram city and the province of Nusa Tenggara Barat. In the future, this ex-airport will not only functioned as a flight school but also to be an eco airport worldclass and also the source of reliable aviation human resource (HR). Besides, by the opening of this Selaparang Airport is expected to trigger economic growth and support tourism in Mataram city.

“It is hoped, soon, in NTB will have many reliable flight cadets. Besided, it will affect on the local revenues by hospitality service, culinary, and also tourim. Thus, the investors will come by themselves,” Yushan added. In this opportunity,  flight and landing training  airplane performed by the pilot of BIFA and LIFT, as a symbol of Selaparang Airport opening. [Arif Haryanto]
