JAKARTA - Angkasa Pura Airports has signed a memorandum of understanding with cigarette enterprise PT Gudang Garam Tbk. on to the joint venture of the Dhoho Kediri Airport in East Java.

The signing of the MoU was carried out by Angkasa Pura Airports President Director Faik Fahmi along with the PT Gudang Garam Tbk. Director Istata T. Siddharta in Jakarta, Tuesday (10/3).

"We are very enthusiastic to be able to have a good cooperation plan between Angkasa Pura Airports with Gudang Garam on the management of Dhoho Airport in Kediri in East Java. The development of Kediri’s Dhoho Airport is very potential because it can be an alternative for Juanda International Airport in East Java,” Faik said.

Angkasa Pura Airports as the owner of an airport business entity license (BUBU) from the Ministry of Transportation will collaborate with Gudang Garam through Government Cooperation with Business Entities based on initiatives by business entities (unsolicited) and is committed to making Dhoho Airport as part of the multi-airport system in East Java region to serve passenger traffic growth.

For information, Kediri’s airport is planned to be included in the National Strategic Projects (PSN) and become an alternative gateway to East Java besides Surabaya’s  Juanda International Airport. In 2019, Juanda International Airport has served more than 16.6 million passengers, 129,000 aircraft movements and 88.4 million kilograms of cargo.

Airport development in Kediri is quite potential because it can be an alternative for Juanda Internatonal Airport in East Java that would be the second gate in the province, opening access especially to regions like Tulung Agung, Blitar, Ponorogo, Trenggalek, Madiun, Magetan and others.

The Dhoho Airport is planned to be built in Grogol Village, Grogol District and Bulusari Village, Tarokan District in Kediri Regency. The distance from Grogol Village to Kediri City Center is around 13 km and can be reached in 30 minutes. While the distance from Juanda International Airport is around 120 km with a travel time of 1.5 to two hours via toll road. Meanwhile, the distance from Abdurahman Saleh International Airport in Malang is around 87 km which can be reached within three to four hours.

In the initial stage, the Dhoho Airport is planned to be built in an area of 13,558 square meters on a land of 400 hectares with a runway dimension of 2400 meters x 45 meters. It has the capacity of 1.5 million passengers per year.

"We are optimistic that through this joint venture, we will further strengthen the portfolio of Angkasa Pura Airports as a world-class airport management company and to help improve air connectivity, especially in East Java," Faik added.

Meanwhile, Istata said, "This investment is a long-term investment and the company's commitment to contribute to the development of the East Java region.” [AD]
