To Increase The Security And Safety Of The Flight, Sultan Hasanuddin Airport Carried Out A Simulation Of An Emergency

Makassar, March 16th,2017 – Losari  Airplane with the flight number MKS090 from Haneda to Makassar crashed and burned before entering the runway 21 Sultan Hasanuddin Airport in Makassar. Airbus 330-200 aircraft with registration code PK-UPG lost control and fell in the area outside of the airport fence, on grid map at c6 at Sultan Hasanuddin Airport in Makassar. Seeing the incident, the official Air Traffic Control (ATC) immediately lit crash bell and inform the clerk watch room.

General Manager Sultan Hasanuddin Makassar immediately activated the Emergency Operation Center (EOC). Airport Rescue   and Fire Fighting officer straight away went to the crash site to extinguish the fire and evacuate. From the description of the ARFF officer, it is known that the aircraft carrying 205 passengers and 13 crews, with the details of 30 people died, 81 people were seriously injured, and 49 people were slightly injured. Customer Service Unit handling passengers at locations greeters-meeters. At the same time, the Public Relation Unit of preparing an emergency press conference about the incident in question. All actions carried out in accordance with the procedures set forth in the Airport Emergency Plan (AEP). These events are part of the scenario of Emergency Countermeasures Exercise (ECE) the 90th Raharja Aerospace which was held at Sultan Hasanuddin Airport in Makassar. This exercise involves at least 1000 personel consisting of Airport Emergency Committee and Airport Security Committee of Angkasa Pura I, the Air Force Airbase Sultan Hasanuddin, Perum LPPNPI, TNI/Polri, Basarnas, Office Port Health, Immigration Office Makassar, Office Customs Makassar, as well as several hospitals around the airport Sultan Hasanuddin Makassar.

 

Exercise of PKD Dirja the 90th included full-scale exercise (exercise- related aircraft accidents), aviation security exercise (on handling bomb threats flight safety) and fire building exercise (on handling building fire). In the all three exercise, the response time of ARFF Unit can not be longer than 3 minutes, as contained in International and National regulations on Airport Emergency Plan (AEP). In addition to handling at the time of the incident, the PKD Dirja the 90th is also done post-incident handling  exercise include the handling of the families of the victims through simulation Meeters Greeters and the handling of the media through the Media Handling simulation activities.

“In the aircraft business, safety and security is a major aspect that needs extra attention. Therefore, every 2 years management of PT Angkasa Pura I (Ltd) carry out simulates Emergency Relief Activities (ERA)to test the function of the coordinates, communications, command and synchronization on a fixed procedure of each element in the airport and in the surrounding supporting functions,” said Operational Director of PT Angkasa Pura I (Ltd), Wendo Asrul Rose.

“As one of the managers of the busiest airports in Eastern part of Indonesia, Angkasa Pura I always strives to improve service quality. This is in line with the awarding of Sultan Hasanuddin Makassar Airport as ‘The Most Improved Airport in Asia Pasific’ year 2016 by the Airport Council International,” said Wendo.

“In practice this ERA in addition to test the handling  at the time of the incident, we also do a good simulation of handling post-incident handling of the passengers, families of passengers as well as to the media seeking information the incident. Hopefully, through simulation during the incident and post handling this incident, we are always in a ready state, both for human resources and facilities for these events can occur at any time,” added Wendo.

The plan is in the 2017, a similar exercise will be held in Praya Lombok Airport, Syamsuddin Noor Airport Banjarmasin, Yogyakarta Adisutjipto Airport, and Pattimura Airport in Ambon.
